  • Prokash Karmakar

    Prokash Karmakar was born in Kolkata in the 1930s. His father was a well-known and respected artist so some of his artistic sensibilities were already there. To hone his skills, he studied at the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata, but however had to drop out as both his parents unfortunately passed away.

    He joined then quit the army he’d been with for 2 years and was subsequently employed as a graphic designer by a local medical company. Out of desperation for money and a the desire to break into the art world, Prokash came upon an ingenious idea, a revolutionary one – and that was to hold a street exhibition of his works. This was the first of its kind in Kolkata. He continued to hold several more street exhibitions. This ultimately threw him into the limelight.

  • Raghava KK

    Raghava KK was born and raised in Bangalore. He started out as a cartoonist, working for various news agencies such as Asian Age and Times of India.

    In 1998, he set up the Lee ‘n’ Rags Cartoon Academy, touring, showing and educating children and adults with his cartoons.

    The proud-to-be-self-trained artist started exploring painting while he was touring after the idea was suggested to him by chief artists such as Farid Belkahia. In this he developed his own very inimitable style, choosing to create his paintings using his hands and feet.

    Since then, his work has been shown in more than 13 countries, with some being sold in auctions by several museums and auction houses. The tireless artist has also taken part in many documentaries and TV shows, facilitated more cartoon and painting workshops, and spoken at numerous talks and lectures.

  • Rajendra Kapse

    Rajendra was born in Chandrapur, Eastern Maharashtra, in 1964. He used to draw as a child and as he had no particular academic leanings towards any other topic, he decided to concentrate solely on art.

    A graduate of Sir JJ School of Art in Mumbai, he is the recipient of several awards including one from the Bombay Art Society, and a handful from the State Art Exhibition. He has also participated in many group shows at venues such as the Sans Tache Art Gallery in Mumbai, the Habitat Centre in New Delhi, and the Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery in Mumbai.

  • Rini Dhumal

    Painter and printmaker, Rini Dhumal, was born in 1948 in Bengal. She is an MA graduate in Fine Arts (Painting) from the M.S. University of Baroda.

    She has taken part in several solo shows of her work as well as group shows both in India and abroad including ‘Tales of the Prophetess’ at the Art Alive Gallery in New Delhi, ‘Shakti’ at the Arts India in New York, ‘The Santiniketan’ at Jamaat in Mumbai, and ‘Wounds’ at the Centre for International Modern Art (CIMA) in Kolkata.

  • S H Raza

    S.H. Raza was born in Babaria, Madhya Pradesh in 1922. After attending Nagpur’s School of Art, he studied at the Sir JJ School of Art in Mumbai, then went on to study at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
     
    One of the founding members of the Progressive Artist’s group, he regards his work as a single point where ‘two parallel enquiries’ meet. One is a ‘pure plastic order’ – the other is nature.
